A place where Barangay Mandalagan today located was a shrubby place wherein the entire area was heavily covered by vegetation. There was no road connecting to other places and the people made thier own pathways.

 

One day, the American Patrol on its way to Talisay was ambushed by a group of Filipino guerillas. In the ensuing skirmished, one American soldier was seriously wounded. As an act of retaliation, the American soldiers ran after the Filipino guerillas with the great desire to capture or kill them,carelessly abandoning their wounded comrade. However, the Filipino gerillas cleverly played hide and seek with their enemies resulting to the capture of a wounded American. He was executed by hanging him on an acacia tree, the present site whre VIMAC Manufacturing Indutries Inc. now stand. His comrade declared a vengeance against the Filipino guerillas over his death. A thorough search of the Filipino guerillas had benn conducted by the Americans as a gesture of their revenge.

 

The following day, on their arrival on a shanty, a young man skeptically ran away from them upon seeing the approaching American soldiers.

 

Instead, the American asked the couple who where pounding rice on what they are doing.

 

Since the old couple cannot understand English, they thought that the Americans were asking why the man was running. They replied "Dalagan". The Americans nodded convicingly thinking that what the old couple was doing, pounding rice was called "Dalagan". From that day on, this said place was called "Mandalagan"

 

Barangay Mandalagan is one of the oldest barangay in the City of Bacolod. It formally became a chartered barangay by the virtue of Republic Act 2730 (Revised Barrio Charter 3590).

 

Presently, Barangay Mandalagan has thirty four (34) puroks and 22 major subdivisions. It is one of the biggest barangay in terms of population density with more or less 27,000 people in households. It has a voting strenght of about 11,500 registered voters (more or less)

 

Barangay Mandalagan is considered a progressive commercial/industrial/residential area because of the rapid growth of business establishments and subdivisions in its vicinity.

 

Today Barangay Mandalagan is disctictly known of its multitude of high rising buildings where business is a pleasure and a legacy for anyone who are proud of its home. This replica of what has been concieved for Barangay Mandalagan as an "Environmental Friendly". It can be called now that Barangay Mandalagan is an "OPPURTUNITY HAVEN".
