          On September 21, 1974 two years after President Marcos established the new society, the Barangay became the basic government unit in the nation’s political structure under Presidential Decree No. 557.

 

          The Barangay was created to provide popular participation in the shaping of public policy. Being so it is service and government oriented. It contains in its structure the mechanism for decisive action. Consequently, all power and functions, duties and responsibilities of Barrio assembly, Councils and officials enumerated in the Revised Barrio Charter was assimilated by the Barangay.

 

           In December 17, 1985 under the administration of Hon. City Mayor Jose Y. Montalvo and Vice-Mayor Jose H. Las Pinas, City Ordinance No. 08 was created approving and adopting the recommended delineation of boundaries of Sixty-one (61) Urban and Rural Barangays in the City of Bacolod.
